  Paolo Pachini
Composer, Video Artist

Paolo Pachini, born in Rome in 1964, studied piano with Francesco Martucci and completed a degree in composition and electronic music at the Santa Cecilia conservatory as a young student. He continued his studies of composition with Salvatore Sciarrino and received a master’s degree in electronic music at the Centro Tempo Reale in Florence. He supplemented his training with a course in computer graphics in Rome. Paolo Pachini has been active as a composer since 1991. His catalog includes works of pure instrumental work or instrumental music with the addition of live electronics all the way to pure “synthetic” music and audiovisual pieces. His interest in such “hybrid artistic forms” has led to the production of audiovisual projects such as Symphonie diagonale or Paesaggi, visioni, per voce preparata. Since 2000 Paolo Pachini has also been active as a video artist, initially in cooperation with the Brazilian artist Marcos Jorge but more recently on his own or with Leonardo Romoli, with whom he produced the multiprojection for Fausto Romitelli’s video opera An Index of Metals. Since 2001 Paolo Pachini has taught electroacoustics and video-musical composition and applications at the Scuola di Musica e Nuove Tecnologie of the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Tartini in Trieste. He participated in a concert of the trio Elastic3 and in the video opera An Index of Metals at the Forum Neues Musiktheater on occasion of the ISCM World New Music Festival 2006.
