I don't know about you guys, but I was trying to get the posting address for Mr Ralf Hütter this summer, so that I could congratulate him on his 50th birthday. Well, however, I didn't succeed. But as Florians 50th birthay is coming up now, maybe there's a chance of getting the address for him. Does anyone of you have it? Please give it to me. I have the best of intentions! In a whole month I was only able to spot (and tape) "Das Modell". Obviously they are broadcasted when I'm out for work so, if someone could tell me about the most probable times, I will leave the VCR on and loaded with a 3-hour tape. BTW : During a 1-hour special on Duran Duran, transmitted on Viva-2 last Saturday night, Durans repeated once again in an interview that their musical goal was to achieve a "cross-over between Kraftwerk and The Chic" This led to a 5-seconds mini-clip of "Tour the France": just enough to further enhance my desire of vieving the full version... At anyrate, I must make the obligatory statement KRAFTWERK IS GOD! About a year ago I saw some special on modern music on TV, they whole thing basically linked all of eletronic music to Kraftwerk. My favorite quote was when Afrika Bambaataa (of Planet Rock fame) said, "Who are these funky white boys from Germany?" I'de also like to make a call out for people to create more Kraftwerk MIDI files. The only one that sounds good is dasmodel.mid. What did she say...anybody???? I have a question that is totally un-KW-related, but this is one of the few places where there are enough music lovers and musicians in this group that some of you may be able to answer my query. OK, here goes: I recently found out that "Battle of the Planets," a show that I remember fondly from my childhood, was translated from the Japanese series "Gatchaman," that aired during most of the '70s in Japan. Now I know that the animation was Japanese from the style; I just didn't know the name of the original series until 2 days ago. Well, does anyone know if the music from the first series, "Gatchaman I," is available on CD anywhere? I appreciate your patience. When I went home to the city, I heard two of the bass-music compilations that I have. It seems that bass artists love to sample "Numbers," "Computer World...2," and "It's More Fun to Compute" the most. A few even sampled them artfully enough that they gave these joints even more depth. Do you think that R&F could learn anything from the Miami bass sound? Someone said the dynamic duo were quoted as saying that they weren't "with it" anymore. I totally disagree. If anything, R&F will blaze new trails and break new ground with anything they compose. That's how ahead-of-their-time they are. I was doing some investigating of my own last night, and eventually traced the IP back to this c2.net provider, so I checked them out. They seem to be one of these web service providers who will give you a web address in the form of www.yournamehere.com or whatever, so as to avoid having a "complicated" "tilde'd" part of the address. It runs on a local ISP, but the url is in the form of www.myCompany.com. This means that I only have to pay a couple of hundred dollars a year for the thing as opposed to having to buy my own hardware and connect it to the internet. This is what I imagine the case to be with kraftwerk.com. This is the case with Gary Numan's site, www.numan.co.uk. With my domain, people can send mail to any address @myCompany.com and it will be dumped into my single account on the ISP. I can then configure my mail program to substitute any e-mail address I want when I reply, effectively forging mail so that it appears that I actually have multiple accounts. If kraftwerk.com is the same way, you should be able to send mail to anthing@kraftwerk.com, and our friends will receive it. (Don't tell them I told you, though!) Several months ago I tried www.kraftwerk.com, just fishing. I found a page there, but it was referring to an actual electric power company! I heard some discussion on the list back then to the effect that whoever had that domain name was sued by some mysterious party who wanted it. Apparently this party was successful. Or Klingklang may have simply bought the domain name from the people who beat them to it. Ironic, in a way, that Kraftwerk of all people should be un-hip enough to current technology to have someone snatch the domain from them before they had realized how valuable it would be... Too busy at work in the studio, I suppose. ;) Electric company? nope.. The domains kraftwerk.de and kraftwerk.com were used by the internet- provider Macup up until late october. You may disagree, but he's considered to be a genius. He's recorded over 1000 songs (not all have been released, obviously), and he records under several pseudonyms. He started taking apart equipment at the age of 10, where he dismantled and reassembled his parents' grand piano and a cheapie Casio keyboard he got for a birthday, naah mean? He gets all of his musical ideas from his dreams and LSD trips. And, he even deletes the sounds he creates with the circuits so he can make new sounds. You have to listen to "Selected Ambient Works Vol. II" to truly appreciate Richard D. James's genius (almost no beats). It seems that some of you are interested in the live '71 in köln original vinyl issue. As a matter of fact, i do own two copies of them, that i bougth from a record dealer in Sweden a couple of years ago. So now I wonder if anyone is interested in buying one of them. The record is VG+, picturedisc with the traffic cone on both sides, and comes with a small certificate. The record contains "ruckzuck" on both sides (the song splitted in 2 parts), in a transperant cover. If anyone's interested, give me an offer! Date: 14 Dec 1996 08:51:21 -0800 Greetings! My name is Justin Barrett, and I recently joined the list after learning about it from a friend I met over the 'Net. My first exposure to Kraftwerk was about 10 years ago through a music-video show (not MTV) that did a focus on music-videos with interesting special effects. As the credits were rolling, they played the music video for Musique Non Stop. The video intrigued me as was interested in computer animation, but the music really caught my attention as well. Unfortunately, they didn't let the whole video play, so I went to the video store and ordered "Electric Cafe" on cassette. I've been hooked ever since. My other music interests include Tangerine Dream, Yello, Jan Hammer, David Arkenstone, Andreas Vollenweider, Information Society, and Art of Noise. I also have done a bit of MOD composing, with some of my work having a bit of a Kraftwerk influence. Regarding the music video I mentioned above, does anyone know where *any* Kraftwerk music videos can be found on tape? I haven't really done a serious search, but I'm sure they're out there somewhere. -----------------Justin Barrett----------------- Owner: Dreamscape Productions Production Assistant: Northland Cable Television # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: BLANKS Subject: (kw) "COMPUTER WORLD" 01/29/1997 Date: 15 Dec 1996 03:09:13 +1015 Hello, Dear WERKers. It is WavMaker, to be found on http://www.abc.se/~m9303/index.html and it is shareware. Although CSound is the de facto software for computer music, WavMaker may have an approach to vocoding more likely what is expected by musicians/music dabblers and not composers belonging to the academic scene. I tried it myself on the past few days and it looks promising, although it is not easy to provide a good carrier signal (the synthesized tone) that adapts fully to the control signal (the voice), at least in the way our beloved masters at Klingklang have done and gotten us used to. There is no difference. CDEurope lists CDs more than once if they're offered by more than one of their distributors. This is the same Japanese "Computer World" reissue listed twice. (I should point out that despite the listed date this CD hasn't actually been released yet, and when it is released it is expected to have only *one* bonus track ("Dentaku"), not three.) Taking CDE's catalogs at face value is very risky -- they are notorious for offering items for sale that do not actually exist, as this example demonstrates. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "deckard" Subject: (kw) merry xmas for all the men machine (women too!!!)
