Damien Jalet
Choreographer, Dancer
Damien Jalet studied at the Institut National des Arts du Spectacle in Brussels. Upon completion he turned to contemporary dance and studied in Belgium and New York with renowned teachers such as Janet Panetta. His career as a choreographer began with Wim Vandekeybus and the show The Day of Heaven and Hell (1998). In 2000 he began to collaborate intently with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui as an artistic partner with the Compagnie Les Ballets C de la B. Together with Cherkaoui, Luc Dunberry, and Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola he created d’avant in 2002 for the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin. In 2005, together with Erna Ómarsdóttir and Dumspiro, he produced the short film The Unclear Age. Rosas entrusted him and Cherkaoui with choreographing the Bal Moderne, with 40,000 dancers, for Belgium’s 175th anniversary. Damien Jalet has taught for several institutes and companies. He participated in Il cielo sulla terra at the Forum Neues Musiktheater in 2006.
