Violinist

Felix Borel was born in Karlsruhe in 1974. At seven he began receiving viola lessons, and at eleven he switched to the violin. From 1993 on he studied with Prof. Nachum Erlich in Karlsruhe, then from 1998 to with Prof. Rainer Kussmaul in Freiburg, where received his diploma in orchestral performance and then passed his concerts exams. During that time he studied quartet performance for years with Hatto Beyerle and Walter Levin in Basel. He is the violinist of the ensemble est! est!! est!!!, with which he won the Wettbewerb für Junge Kultur in Düsseldorf in 1997 and was included among the Konzerte junger Künstler of the Deutscher Musikrat in 1999. As a guest performer or additional player he has appeared with ensembles like ensemble recherche and Camerata Bern. With the Trio Ginko he is exploring the field of tension between written and improvised music, and became acquainted with musicians like Matthias Stich and Mike Svoboda.
